From Pop-up to Your Table

From Pop-up to Your Table is a marketing project I led to tell the story of Chi Fan Le—inviting audiences to connect with the brand’s message and engage with the local Michigan community interested in authentic Chinese cuisine and Asian culture.

Chi Fan Le (which means “time to eat” in Mandarin) is a Detroit-based Chinese food pop-up that brings traditional dishes to various venues and hosts community-centered cooking experiences.

Zine

I’ve tasted Chi Fan Le’s food before, and it instantly reminded me of my grandma’s home-cooked meals — that quiet comfort you can never forget.

Chi Fan Le is a brand that warms both the stomach and the heart.

I wanted a medium that could hold onto that same feeling. A zine offers a tactile experience. It is something people can hold, flip through, and remember not only for its stories but also for the feeling of engaging with it physically.

“How did Chi Fan Le bring the food to your table?” — it was a question many of our followers were curious about.

I collaborated with Detroit-based Asian American artist Naomi Ning, who had personally experienced Chi Fan Le’s food and designed the zine’s characters and visual layout. As the project lead, I organized meetings with Naomi, provided detailed guidelines on the food preparation and event setup process, and offered feedback on each draft to refine and elevate the final design.

The completed zine was showcased at Chi Fan Le’s pop-up events, serving as a keepsake that allowed visitors to carry Chi Fan Le’s warmth, creativity, and flavors beyond the table.

Fliers & Videos

Building on the zine’s storytelling approach, I also designed fliers and produced videos to give Chi Fan Le a more cohesive and recognizable public presence—helping audiences learn more about Chinese culture through both visual design and narrative.

I created event fliers that balanced practical information (time, location, and offerings) with cultural storytelling elements. Some focused on promoting specific pop-up events, while others celebrated the Asian culture.
