Naomi Zheng is a multimedia artist passionate about creating media that uplifts communities and fosters empathy across cultures.

Originally from Hangzhou, China, Naomi moved to the U.S. to pursue her studies. It is a journey that shaped her perspective as both an artist and a storyteller. Navigating life abroad inspired her to create work that gives voice to international students and celebrates cross-cultural understanding.

At the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, she majored in Communication and Media. Seeing the lack of representation of international voices online, Naomi founded Roam Bistro, a media-cultural club sharing Chinese students’ experiences in the U.S. She also worked as a Social Media & Marketing Assistant at the U-M International Center, producing content that helped international students feel seen, connected, and at home. Naomi will attend the UM International Students Career Talk in November to share her internship and career insights.

Naomi’s creative practice spans VR, video, and graphic design. Her VR film Decode l0ve, which explores digital intimacy, was showcased at the 62nd Ann Arbor Film Festival and AMPLIFY: 2024 Digital Studies Showcase.

Graduating with High Distinction and recognized as a James B. Angell Scholar, Naomi continues to merge media, empathy, and community. She is dedicated to building projects that inform, connect, and empower international communities in the U.S. and beyond.
